Left Hand Side

Let's go for a drive
Pass our troubles on the left hand side again
I may be somewhat out of line
I was thinking by-the-by
It ain't no surprise
To see you with a rueful smile and then
I may be just a parvenu
And my routine's wearing thin
Used to say a little prayer every evening
Now I can't be sure just who I'm deceiving
I can't help but fly
From overweening blowhards causing strife
To set the world to burning down
To hide what they'd contrive
They took us unaware
Poured rhetoric and bile on our lives
Dressed up like it's a point-of-view
Though it hardly seems they tried
Used to say a little prayer every evening
Now I can't be sure just who I'm deceiving

Billyburg Bridge

Must've been some night on the Billyburg Bridge
Must've been some fright to make you do what they said
I don't believe we can account but what is done is did
You should've seen the faces of me and your friends
They say that you can't know what lies in the hearts of men
I don't believe we can account the means or the ends
To think that we were strangers once in this strange land
We passed through mortal dangers to catch-as-catch-can
I don't use coincidence to makeshift and mend
I can see the traces you left everywhere
They're written in the buildings and streets and the air
I don't think we could erase you even if we dared
'Cause we're searching for a reason
To say it's no one's fault
With the turning of the seasons I go past
Every single inch that I have trod
Must've been some night on the Billyburg Bridge
Must've been some fright to make you do what they said
I don't believe we can account but what is done is did

Dutch Courage St. Louis, Missouri
RIP: 2003-2022 Songwriter Andy Puechner grew up obsessed with music: playing his father’s rock albums in the family's rumpus-
room, and making a racket playing bass in his High School punk bands. His talent for melody convinced him to perform solo as Dutch Courage, garnering notice from outlets like the Riverfront Times & Shepherd Express.
He continues to write and record music in his STL home.
